young hearts be free tonight...

so. i have finally finally decided to come back to blogging. and i will try (honestly!) to keep some kind of momentum now. it's just too easy to give up sometimes...

anyway. at least i have something semi-interesting to blog about. i did a big shop (well, big for me) last thursday, so i have decided to share my treats with you :)

i started at the university of the west of scotland on monday and i needed some new clothes. 'need' is perhaps an extension, 'want' is definitely more like it! i decided to arm myself with just £50 (and a little help from student cards and staff cards!) and see what i could get on glasgow's finest shopping streets...

i got this beautiful navy polka dot skirt from said work, H&M, after running around all three stores in central glasgow. it was only in the last one that they had any left. normally the fact that something is sold out sends me running away from it, but i had a skirt just like this in my head and i couldn't go home without one! it's £19.99 full price, but staff discount managed to get it down to around £15, which is lovely! it's such a flattering length and shape, a good a-line just above the knee, and it's fully pleated, although the pleats are soft and not sharp. i also got a black polka dot t-shirt from H&M too, normally £7.99, around £5 for me though. i didn't picture that, it's only a t-shirt :) i wore this skirt on the first day of uni, with shiny new shoes and a black body, trying to look chic!

my next buy was this gorgeous blouse! i love it. i saw a very very similar one in new look a couple of weeks ago, and featured it in my article here, but i couldn't fathom paying £20 for a blouse. so when i returned some stilettos to primark, i was looking for something to exchange them for, and i found this blouse. almost a carbon copy, except with prettier sleeves, and in ivory rather than pink, which for me is definitely more wearable! it was half the price of the new look blouse too, so i definitely think i've got the better deal! i can't wait to wear this tomorrow with navy high-waisted shorts and the shoes i'm just about to post about...!

my next two buys were definitely my biggest bargains of the day, both from new look. i saw this dress while i was visiting a friend a couple of weeks ago and thought it would be perfect for autumn, with it being burgundy, having a peter pan collar/cape and a midi length, but i couldn't be bothered buying it when i knew that the store nearest me would have it! so i made it my mission to find this dress and i wasn't disappointed. it was originally £27.99, but what with it having £10 off and 20% student discount, i got it for around £14.50, almost half price!

isn't it lovely?! and then i found these shoes, which i wanted ages ago, even before i moved, but they were about £30 and i was poor at the time. i was wandering around glasgow and went into the much quieter (read:much shabbier) new look on sauchiehall street, which most people seem to ignore in favour of the really flashy new one on buchanan street. the downstairs isn't great, but the top floor is all sale stock, and has lots of stuff that sold out in other shops. including these black 'monk' shoes, reduced to £7! i was so pleased with myself, the only pair they had left were in my size!i also got little treats, like calvin klein underwear in tk maxx for around a third of the price, but obviously i'm not going to post that! the other things i treated myself too were the result of a friend deciding to buy me a bag and shoes from aldo for my birthday, neither of which i liked, unfortunately. so i secretly exchanged them and got a gift card (sorry love!) and decided to get myself things that would be used instead. i still haven't brought myself to tell her, hopefully she doesn't read this!! but anyway. i first got this gorgeous bag, which i wouldn't pay the money for myself because i simply can't afford to, but with a gift card it's always different isn't it? i completely fell in love with it, it's just the style i wanted, and the colour goes with everything, plus it's roomy enough for uni stuff. unreal! it's £40 in aldo, also in red and black and brown i believe!

the second and last thing i got was also thanks to my aldo card, and only affordable thanks to their sale! i needed a new pair of black patent brogues, as mine from dorothy perkins had a huge hole in the heel, so i was so pleased when i found these for the exact amount i had left on my card, £30! they are almost like old-fashioned show shoes, and still so beautifully shiny! i hate normal laces so i have threaded these with black velvet ribbon. they still need breaking in properly but they are just so lovely!

so that was my haul! not including the aldo goodies, i think i spend just over £50, which i don't think was too bad! i promise some outfit shots soon, can't wait to get back into this habit :)

have you bought anything new for uni?!

apologies

for the horrifically long hiatus. allow me to explain. about six weeks ago, me and the boy moved to glasgow and our internet connection was continuously delayed until... now. so i can carry on the blog as i planned and try and get some new followers :) i currently have not much exciting to say, except that i adore glasgow and can't wait to start my third year of uni!!

i do have some slightly exciting news though. i have been offered and accepted a position on an online magazine and am now a features writer! so i will be posting links to my articles as soon as they are published online and i would adore it if anyone could read/comment/start some kind of buzz!!!

love,

that thursday feeling

well hello!! i'm in a very good mood today - finally college is over, so no more work, and i only have three weeks until i move into our lovely new flat in glasgow :) i literally can't wait! the flat's just gorgeous, it's right on the main shopping street in the city centre, and it's built around this amazing little courtyard with trees and benches... i can't wait to take some photos and show you :)

the boyfriend's off to belgium for the rockwerchter festival on sunday for two whole weeks, which i'm not really looking forward to, it'll be the longest time we've been apart. but it's going to be a great time to catch up with my friends and have some girlie time before i go; we've got lots of movie nights in and big nights out planned! it's been a while since i've been on a really good night out so i'll get lots of pics...!

so here's what i am wearing today, just to sit in the garden at my mother-in-law's:

top - max c london, belt - h&m, chinos - h&m

please excuse the horrific mess behind me, we are in the middle of packing!

i had a hunt around the charity shops in aberdeen yesterday, just to see if i could find anything new and very definitely cheap - money is hard to come by just recently! i find that the charity shops in aberdeen tend to think of themselves as vintage shops, and charge a ridiculous amount for some of their stuff. it seems impossible to find a real bargain in them now, unless you're prepared to really dig around. so i traipsed through the whole town, and only did i find something i liked in the very last shop... typical!

but they were worth the walk i guess - i got these vintage Wallis peg-leg trousers in a lovely caramel colour for the grand sum of £3.25, not to0 shabby! please excuse the way they look in the picture, for some reason they look hideously big but they are very nice - i'll wear them once they've had a wash and put a picture on here!!

have you found any little treasures in your local charity shops recently?

it's written all over my face....

i went to see morrissey last night. and it was amazing!!!! i've been a smiths fan for aaages and i always wanted to see them live, but obviously morrissey is more than a good enough substitute :) he played quite a lot of smiths songs as well so it was so cool :) it's actually pretty incredible how so many people are still so obsessed with him; there were grown men crying at 'there is a light that never goes out'! but it was sooo good and something i'd definitely like to see again :)

i've also just put some stuff up on ebay, so if you'd like to take a look it's right here :)

i don't really have much else to say just now, but i hope everyone's having a lovely saturday!

there's no way to tell by that first kiss

hello :)

it's getting to be a pretty busy week here. it's supposed to be my final week of college before i set off for uni, but everything's getting pushed back and dragged out to next week now... when will it end?! so i have just been sat in the library for the past three days, between going to work and meeting up with friends!

that sounds really contradictory between me saying that i have lots of work on, but i only have four weeks left in Aberdeen so i really need to make the most of my pals :(

here's what i wore yesterday for the library, then nando's and shopping with my friend aby :)

lace crop top - new look, peach midi skirt - new look, necklace - topshop

i'm quite in love with both of these things but i'm just not sure on them together. i got both in the sale for the grand sum of £8, i'm not quite sure why either. the top has a great peter pan collar but my hair hides it :( i would love to wear the top with jeans too but i think i need to start my bikini boot camp before that can happen!!

and here's what i wore today:

lace vest top - primark, gold belt - topshop, navy midi skirt - charity shop

i really love midi skirts at the moment i think! this one is amazing, i found it in a little old lady's charity shop for £3, amazing :) there's a similar one in my work but it's about £25, i think everyone's well jealous of mine!

anyway, i don't have much else to say just now, not that anyone will be reading this today, but i hope that anyone who is is having a lovely time :)

i wish i had a river i could skate away on...

hellloooo there.

first outfit post of my shiny new blog :)

hat, primark. dress, h&m. belt, topshop. bag, ebay. scarf, vintage. brogues, primark.

i've been wanting a cute summer hat for a while, after my boyfriend mentioned i might suit one. this straw boater is perfect, i totally love it! only £4 from primark as well, after finding some really overpriced ones in vintage shops it was a bargain! and i totally love my new dress, i bought it from my work yesterday after seeing it on a mannequin, only £5.99 with staff discount so another bargain for me :) can't be spending too much money if i want to be able to shop in paris in august!

these two are going to be my summer staples without a doubt, what are yours?

Look here, come a little closer

Hello there. I have decided a reincarnation is in order, due to all the new things happening in my life. And a new blog is just one of the things I'll be embarking on. But just in case you never read/followed/even heard of my previous blog, let's have a getting-to-know-me session, enjoy..!

Who Are You?
A dreamer, a lover, an artist, a musician, a writer, a hoper, a happy, creative person.

What Is Your Name?
Laura Jayne Hudson

Where Do You Live?
Currently Aberdeen, but I am relocating to Glasgow in mere weeks!!

Who Do You Live With?
My gorgeous boyfriend, the best roomie in the world :)

What Is Your Favourite Colour?
I could try and be chic and say navy blue, but the little girl in me will always choose pink!

Three Songs You Couldn't Live Without?
Ouch. Anything from Joni Mitchell's 'Blue', 'Landslide' by Fleetwood Mac and 'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out' by The Smiths.

One Person You Couldn't Live Without?
The aforementioned best roomie in the world. He fills the world with light :)

What Is On Your Walls?
Not much to be honest, everything has been packed up ready for the big move! Normally, various little snaps of my favourite people, like Debbie Harry, Marilyn Monroe, Mick Jagger, Morrissey, and a very cool Radiohead poster. And a lovely string of floral bunting :)

What Is The Most Treasured Item In Your Wardrobe?
A 1970s white Grecian-style evening/wedding dress - it's the ultimate in absolute glamour.

What Is Your Most Treasured Possession?
An antique silver charmbracelet from my Nanna, an anchor pendant from my boyfriend and a teddy bear from my baby-ness.

What Are Your Favourite Books?
I adore F Scott Fitzgerald, so 'Tender Is The Night', 'The Great Gatsby' and 'The Beautiful and Damned', 'Bonjour Tristesse' and 'A Certain Smile' by Francoise Sagan and 'Breakfast At Tiffany's' by Truman Capote.

Your Favourite Films?
Again, 'Breakfast At Tiffany's', 'Some Like It Hot', 'The Seven Year Itch', 'Priceless', 'Amelie' and lots more. They're on my profile, I can never remember them all, the DVD collection is in excess of 400 films now!

Who Is Your Idol?
I think I would say Joni Mitchell. To come from an ordinary background and produce such an extraordinary legacy, despite having many personal problems, is inspiring. I would love to write a song even half as good as anything from 'Blue'.

Who Is Your Style Icon?
Brigitte Bardot, Alexa Chung, Chloe Sevigny, Diana Vickers, Audrey Hepburn, Garance Dore, Rosie Huntington-Whitely, Kate Moss and lots more.

Winter Or Summer?
Winter is more chic, but Summer is easier, much more relaxed and much more fun!

Bare Legs Or Tights?
Tights are a must for seventy percent of the year in Scotland, but given the chance, I do love to break out the skin!

Flats or Heels?
Definitely flats during the day, either ballerina pumps, brogues or ankle boots, but skyscraper platform heels for a big night out!

Your Favourite Drink?
A lovely cup of tea.

Your Favourite Food?
Most things with chicken. Current love is chicken, roasted peppers and red pesto risotto. Amazing.

Your Ultimate Dream Or Ambition?
To be a successful singer/songwriter, and an icon for someone else.

Your Hobby?
Writing songs, singing, playing guitar, reading, watching films, writing, socialising, picnicking, having fun :)

Your Fears?
Ending up alone. Although it might not be so bad if there were cats for company.

Something You Say All The Time?
'Oh wow!'

No.1 Wishlist Item?
Just now? Beautiful, beautiful furniture for my lovely new home :)

What Are You Wearing?
A cropped cream lace Peter Pan tshirt and indigo skinny jeans.

Your Pets?
My own dog, Tilly, currently residing in London with my parents, and my foster pets, courtesy of my boyfriend: Hebrew, Beethoven and Jaffa the cats, and Hamish and Pug the dogs :)

Your Favourite Shop?
De Courcy's arcade in Glasgow.

Quote For Life?
'Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind' - the effervescent Dr Seuss.

I hope this gives you a little insight into my life! Let's be friends :)
